Samson and Philistine study at museum

This was one of those long sessions... I'm working on longer poses (good couple of hours), trying not to make 'sketchy' marks or think about making a good drawing... but to focus on whats really there..practice this more. Also get a new scanner (this drawing did'nt scan that well).

  1. it's a rare treat when you post but when you do it's usally with something good. i like the drawing a lot man, real solid form. you said that you didn't wanna make sketchy marks. how did you go about drawing the image, did you do a lot of mapping out and then work it up? also did you just wanna make it a line drawing? why not tone as well if your going whats really there,

great drawing man, post more often! :)

  2. The forms not bad, but it could be a lot better. I did'nt really map it out to start with because its usually not that accurate when I do that. I started with one shape at the bottom measured quite a bit and started drawing from the bottom of the page upwards, using that shape to relate everything else afterwards. (WHICH WAS A BIG CHALLENGE FOR ME). You can kinda see that I did'nt map it out cuz I did'nt completely fit the second figure in... by the time I had worked my way upwards from that shape, I realised it had gone off the page. But now I've started using larger paper. You're right Tim, tone is there.. but the only reason I did'nt use tone is im trying to get accurate too. Tone is good at hiding a lot of errors and its easy to become seduced by mark making, marks that are not really there.. so I wanted to make sure my mind was in the right place first. But I have started some tonal studies which I'll put up soon.
